![]() ![]() ![]() They have found a sound with a lot of character that defines them and makes them recognizable and that for a band is priceless. "‘Lycopolis’ as delivered a perfect release that's recorded live their home soil and music not just give you lyrical themes on Egyptian history/mythology but draws you into their homeland (making you feel like you're in the middle east) with their music – so if you like your black metal uncooked and delivers the goods of pure evil/raw music, well, 'The Procession' is for you." The overall effect creates a trance like state, Separate the Sky from the Earth is another Highlight, whilst the Power of the Two Lands is the best representation of the infusion of Arabic within their extreme framework.Īnother very interesting proposal in the debut of this band, combining the more minimalist and atmospheric Black Metal sound with oriental music, highlighting the Egyptian music, creating that gloomy folk atmosphere. Pernu is an ode to the old ones and to the originators of black metal with classic early 80’s inspired riffing. One With Sharp Arrows is more of their Black metal craftmanship allowing the music to create its own atmosphere with minimalism and attention to detail. From Lord of the Necropolis and is unique eastern riffing, this nameless band from the City of Wolves (Egypt) has embraced their hard ship and Arabic origins and matured into a raw earthly focused outfit. The fact that this album exists in such adversity is worth celebrating alone. And they generally look like the amateur group from your nearest garage concert hall.īut of course, then "Tamarisk" explodes in your face, and for the next 37 minutes you discover that you can't escape this feverish nightmare that shakes you non-stop with its wild riffs, voice from hell and Dantesque atmosphere.Īs it turns out, this cacophony has some of the best Black riffs you've heard in time, mixed with a certain atmospheric edge and Arabic overtones (they're from Egypt for a reason). He starts the album with a song that almost seems like a random jam at his place (almost the same as it is). But what matters most of all is how great The Procession is, regardless of any contextual factors. ![]() It’s definitely cool Lycopolis hail from Egypt and incorporate those influences into their music. If this band with the raw and savage sound and style were from North America or Europe, its debut album might already be hailed as a top contender for best BM debut for 2021, let alone challenge for a place among the best BM album releases for 2021. This release is by far their best material to date and is not something to skip over. Lycopolis deserve much more recognition than they currently have. ![]()
